You might find that "rap rings" work better with line than with webbing. There are YouTube videos that show this with the rap rings at the tree end rather than the hammock end. That way, you don't have to mess with the original suspension - just attach the rings to what ever is hugging the tree.
Suspensions are fun for experimenting. I've go from original line to cinched webbing to whoopie slings and back again. I've gone from climber's biners to soft shackles to biners (from WarBonnet) smaller than traditional climbing hardware. tried one of those key fob biners - never again. So the point is, it's fun and I think the "perfect setup" is a moving target, dependent on the tree type and time of year. I don't want to work with whoopie slings in the dead of a frozen winter. And the trees here in the NW with their gnarly bark are different from the slender smooth surfaced variety I see in example videos from the east.
Just remember to test in a friendly environment; i.e. not over a cactus.
Hey Bigsig where did you get the hammock with legs I gots to have me one of them..

Just hung with a new ring buckle system in the back yard today. Ran mule tape through them to the tree.
It worked well!
