    Cool New Cold Temp Record!!!!

I spent the last 2 nights camping out in northern WI for what was originally scheduled to be the new years/birthday hang. This turned out to be a solo trip and cold one at that. With the recent cold snap, I picked up a special digital thermometer designed to record temps as low as -50. I thought there might be a shot at breaking my old personal record. Not only did I beat my own record but I think I beat Shugs too and I got the photos to show it! I also looked up the local temp for the area and it verifies my thermometers accuracy. The night time temp I got was -26.3F and the temp when I got out of bed around 7am was still -25F
Since Hikingdad wasn't there to loan me his 50 degree UQ like our trip a couple weeks ago, I just camped without quilts

here is a link to see my (very simple)set up for this extreme cold trip

for comparison, here is an entertaining video of my set up with hikingdad and snipen from 2 weeks ago

The first night was +25 and perfect but I got a bit chilled in the am. The second night when it dropped to -26 I added a piece of reflectix under me and problem solved. I slept even better the second night. The coldest I felt was in my feet while taking everything down. I have cheap boots with liners that have almost completely burned up.

I love the pic of you holding the thermometer and ice all over the place.

Congrats to you, but Shug(and Kurt) don't have the low record. It's held by Turk, I think, or possibly Fronkey. I believe it's in the minus 30's. Either way, great for you and it's not for this Florida boy.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Wow. Holy crap. Way to go....I think I was concerned with a cold nose at 19* - I'm not worth chant starts now.

Congratulations for sure, I am hoping to get to 0* this coming Friday night in my backyard.

    Very impressive!

We're did you get your Acu-rite thermometer?
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

Nice one! So what was your insulation set up? Where you backpacking (i.e carrying your gear?)
    +25º to -25º overnight!!! Wow that's a big difference.

My temp is slightly lower than Shugs -26 and as far as I know he is the only one who has photo proof of such a crazy cold temp. If you count wind chills, then Fronkey probably has it from last Winter while he was thru hiking. I have only gotten to wind chills to -35 or so. There was little wind last night but not really anything worth noting. Besides, if your tarp has doors, the wind chill probably isn't a factor.

I just added a link to youtube showing my gear. It was a short hike, maybe 15 minutes with a pulk sled and snow shows.

"We're did you get your Acu-rite thermometer?"

I just new people were going to want to know. Any battery operated thermometer will likely fail around 0 and many digital thermometers don't go down past -4. You just need to get a thermometer with a wired sensor. Or, you could probably get away with a non digital type but the digital one tracks the max and min temps s well.
