    Phantom Hammock Syndrome

Anyone else get this? I spent the last two days out in the woods hanging. Had a blast, then came home. It seems everywhere I sit I feel like we are either having small earthquakes or what I am sitting on is rocking. Maybe it's just my mind wishing it was still in the hammock. And to think, I used to spend weeks at a time outside hammock camping. I don't remember having this sensation upon returning to ground before.

I haven't been hanging yet but I used to work in a cherry picker 8 hours a day. Sometimes when I came home my wife said when I was standing talking to her I would be swaying. Felt it in the shower mostly, closed my eyes to shampoo my hair and would be swaying like trees in the wind. Probably similar to what you're experiencing.

I remember this happening to me when I was young and would rollerblade for hours, then I would go to bed and my feet would be swaying back and forth. havent yet felt it from hangin but I'm sure I will as its where I spend the most time.

I got something similar when I had a job cleaning carpets for a few months. I really hated that job, but the one nice thing was that as you were cleaning, you couldn't talk to anyone (or better yet they couldn't bug you). But after a day of swaying back and forth cleaning, I'd get home and sit on the sofa and the whole room would be moving under me. Weirdest feeling. I'd actually almost get seasick from sitting still.

I believe the sensation you're referring to could be compared to what you have being on a boat/ship all day, and get back to dry land. You are walking in a zig-zag fashion without really knowing it, and being seated feels like you're still rocking. "Stillness-illness"

I've had the same problem when sailing.. After a week or two on the boat everything is still rocking, ground, bed, chairs... the lot..!!

has to be the same after being rocked to sleep in the hammock, has to do with the inner ear thingy

If the hammock is rocking, don't come knocking

After hanging I don't have a problem feeling like anything is moving, just a problem that no matter where I sit or lay other that my hammock it is miserably uncomfortable.

    DITTO!
    Darn it!
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I'll second that If only there was some way to have my hammock up against my computer desk......perhaps a hammock chair might be a good investment soon.
