Tnere are fabrics that are thousands of years old. Admittedly they are not asked to carry weight any longer but still and all. Nylon or polyester are synthetics and so are not subject to the deterioration found in natural fibers. While they do have a shelf life it is estimated they take a while to decompose.

So if you keep it dry and out of the UV spectrum you should be good for a few years anyway. Even moisture will not "rot" the fabric like it does cotton or wool. But it will make it musty.

I use the Singlenest, for now. BB on the way. I have had no problems at all with this hammock and I have a few pounds on you.

What caused your hammock to dump you... torn fabric, broke line or webbing?
    And welcome to HF.

No, I don't think so. I'd have to guess that if you used a hammock a few times a year, taking care about unnecessary abrasion to the fabric, didn't leave it out in the sun, & stored it properly, I'll bet it would last for lots of years!!!

The fabric does age- both through wear and just age- as ramblinrev says, it's probably something like 30 years. Which isn't bad.

It would be nice if there was a formula for estimating hammock life. (taking into consideration nights used, exposure to sun, age of fabric , weight of user verses capacity of fabric etc)
