types of webbing?

I am looking to do some diy stuff, tarp mod, tarp maybe and other stuff. I am probably going to just get 11 or so yards of sil and some other materials.
Diygear has several types of webbing; .5 poly tubing, gross grain, reflex gross grain, nylon webbing and polypropylene webbing.
These also come if several widths.
I thought about using the reflective gross on all the tie outs instead of drings or triangle rings.
I am not concerned about color.
So what webbing works for what?

Can anyone help with this? I could really use a brakedown of the different things. Considering most of of these things I cant see in a store it would help to know whats what. I guess I could contact the vendors like diygear and owf. I could also try to go to the sewing machine shop in town and see if they are familiar, they have quilting stuff.

I've always used grosgrain for my tarp pullouts. You'll be fine with it Its pretty strong stuff. Don't forget to pick up some 200d oxford or equivalent for reinforcements, just cut out some 4'' x 4'' squares and don't forget to hem them. Good luck!

What thickness do u use?

For the pull-outs, 1/2" Bias tape or Grosgrain with a 1/2" D-Ring works great.
For the ridgeline I use 3/4" or 1/2" Polyester webbing with a D-Ring.

Didn't know you could get it in different thicknesses, I use whatever diygs sells.

I'm pretty sure gross grain is a one size sort of situation. I've got loops sewn on for pullouts on my tarp, no hardware. Works perfectly. Make sure you really reinforce the point where the gross grain is actually sewed to the tarp, though - this will be a really high tension location.

If using bias tape becareful and make sure you get 100% polyester. Much of the bias tape I see if a cotton mix, and the cotton will eventually decay.

Samw goes for anything really - always make sure it's 100% synthetic fiber.

Bias tape??? I thought bias tape was cut on the bias so that is is very stretchy and used to bind the edges of sleeve cuffs, etc. where you want it to stretch.

I think there was a post some time back stating one of the cottage manufacturers used it for the tarp ridgeline, but I have one of those tarps and wouldn't call it bias tape. Maybe there is another product with the same name I am unaware of???

I guess this is where i get confused, maybe people just use the wrong names. I would want stuff for a tarp, adding doors, adding the tabs and such. My thoughts were either a rolled hem for the boarder or grosgrain, or any of the other webbings listed in diy(nylon, polypro, tubing).

Then how do I judge the width? I am not a ul person and not working with real ul material.
I was thinking the reflextive webbing for all tie outs, and grosgrain 3/4 for the rl. If I make detatchable doors I would some there too maybe.
