attaching whoopie to continuous loop?

I recently read on Derek's blog "The Ultimate Hang" about all the advantages of the continuous loop and I am sold. The one scenario he didn't cover (or I missed) was attaching a whoopie sling to a continuous loop with larks head instead of the whoopie hook. Has anyone tried this method or have any thoughts? As soon my order of Amsteel comes I will be constructing the loops and whoopie slings and installing them on my new ENO. My HH already has whoopie slings permanently attached.

I've done it. There are recommendations as to the amount diametre amsteel can bend around. Can't remember off hand how many fids it is but for my purposes I wasn't overly concerned. I don't do it now only because it's not as easy as using hardware like a Dutch biner or whoopie hook.

I use soft shackles (or nacrabiner) and have been for hundreds of hangs. Given that I load it up with 300+ lbs each time and they are still working just fine, I'm good with it.

Dutch hooks would be simpler, more elegant and will eventually find their way into my kit, but for now, a little bit of amsteel splicing and I am good to go.

I have been hanging for a week of nights in the house on just loops and whoopies.
Don't need the rain drip break inside so it's fine.

My dutch bling did just arrive and it will of course have to be tested.

Another hardware or tractor supply option is threaded quick links of 3/16" or bigger.

Descender rings work very well, give you a water drip break and are under $3 each at DIY gear.

I think the aluminum rings is the route I will end up taking. Thank you. I currently have two Omega Pacific rings, but those seem heavy. I will probably get the lighter ones from DIYgear.

The only downside to the ring is initial attachment. To get it larks headed onto the continuous loop, you'll need to have the loop separate from the hammock. Not an issue with your ENO if you're going to install them anyway - but on your HH you'll need to remove the loop from the hammock, attach it to the ring, and reattach the loop to the hammock.

Not insurmountable, but be aware.

For easier attachment, a climbing rated carabiner, dutch biner, or dutch whoopee hook would be preferable, though not needed.

Actually, I don't find this to be true. You can insert a ring or buckle mid line with a girth hitch.

With slack in the line:

Pinch the line together to form a loop

pass the loop to go through the center of the ring

now pass the line loop over the OUTSIDE of the ring and come completely back on itself.

You now have a larks head mid line (or continuous loop)

Totally forgot about that way. I was thinking the only other option is to thread the whole line through ... Which would work fine on the whoopie side but not on the hammock side. Totally forgot about the pass over trick.

I am glad you are familiar with that trick because I was trying to look up the link. I read about it on here, from someone much smarter than me, and I was racking my brain trying to remember which tread it was in.
