    Over Cover Applications.

I can see using them maybe in winter for added warmth but any real weather protection I would think could be handled buy a large tarp with doors.
I would think if using down, condensation would be a real issue.
But they look pretty cool and make the hammock seem bombproof.
So I'm wondering what any experience folks think of over covers.
Do you use them or not ?
    Any reason why?

I should mention specifically the WBBB XLC and Dream Hammock Thunderbird type zip in over covers.

Over/top covers are for warmth. Your tarp is your weather protection...appropriate size is good but that does not necessarily mean a winter tarp with doors. There are lots of hangers using smaller tarps year round. It's a skill you develop where as throwing up the big top with full doors can be nice it is hardly a requirement.

Top covers can add a good bit of warmth, wind blocking, and light blocking...say on a full moon night or should you be looking to sleep in or catch an afternoon nap.

I use a BLACK polar fleece over cover for warmth and to block light it does a fantastic job of both. It adds 10* easy to the temp rating of my top insulation and it makes the inside the hammock pitch black at high noon. An added bonus is that it raises the humidity during really cold, dry nights.

The top cover holds in the heat, and it is nice to help keep your face warm so you don't have to cover your face so much.

I use the overcover on my Dangerbirds a lot in cold weather. They add a lot of warmth, especially when it is windy. I seem to experience a lot of frost or condensation on the cover, but it wipes off easily. Doesn't seem to affect my insulation.

I have to warbonnet Blackbird XLC with the top cover and it consistently adds 10 to 12 degrees of warmth, I have gotten a small amount of condensation from time to time if the conditions are rite, but it's only minimal.

I use a couple of different over covers. The ACU camo one in the pic of the hammock and UQP is 1.0 ripstop. It gets cold at night in the mountains and this pic was taken at the Idaho Hang in September. Think we were up at about 8,500 ft (Paul can correct that if need be).
It pulls up to about my chin and works pretty well to add a few degrees of heat along with the protector.

For winter, I use a fleece full cover.

    Oh wow those are cool....
Would you say you prefer the Sock type cover to the zip type ?
Also where did you get the fleece ?
Someone mentioned it earlier and I didn't envision that in my head....it seems really nice.

Why fleece? It would seem it would be very heavy and bulky, even more heavy after a night of soaking up condensation and aspiration.
