Talking (video)---> ICE Climbing and Camping in MINUS 35°

Falling into a river is one thing, falling into a frozen river is a whole different story!

This trip was so epic! We left Dec 27th and came back Dec 31st. Within that time frame we got soaked from wet ice in 28°s, My climbing partner fell through the ice and landed back first into a shallow river, temps dropped to minus 35° two nights later, everything we owned was frozen rock solid, and we had a freaking blast!

My climbing partner is the one who edited this video so there aren't any pictures of the one and only night that we hammocked (he borrowed my old hammock which is not comfortable so I don't blame him!) but I am so jazzed about the trip I had to share the video anyways.

2:25-2:26 So you guys don't tether your ice axes to your wrist?
If you drop one do you just repel down and retrieve it?

    Enjoyed the video.

That does look like an epic trip!!! I also wondered what would happen if you accidently dropped your ice pick I did not see it tied to anything. Also how did you warm back up after getting soaked in those temps. Did you have enough gear and clothing that it dident matter? Regardless looked like an awesome trip glad you guys had fun and came home safe.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Climbing leashless allows for alot more freedom of movement especially on mixed routes. If one of us dropped a tool we would have had to ascend the rope and scramble to the bottom of the canyon to look for it since we were just above 200 feet. If the climb had been any higher we would have used leashes.

We dried our clothes with a lot of hiking! I had some gloves that got so wet I could wring water out of them. Those I was unable to dry before the end of the trip but I had some beefy mittens with me to replace them.
