    attaching line to mac cat

so i got my spinn tarp from brian and it's awesome! i cannot tell you all how light it is. however it isn't light enough to levitate. i need to attach it to 2 trees and possibly 4 stakes. being new to hammocking i've never had to mess around w/ this before...

what knots do you all recommend i use to attach the 2 guy lines to the tarp with? bowlines?
i plan to use figure 9s on the trees. do you guys recommend running the guyline the whole length of the tarp or should i just tie out from the 2 guy line tie outs?

same for the 4 tie downs. do you guys attach them to the tarp with bowlines then just tie em to the stakes, or figure 9s if i go that route?

There are several knots that will work just fine. Small Bowlines are great, as they leave that loop that you can stick your hiking poles in to make an awning, without having to stick them into the tarp tie out loops and making contact with the tarp. A sheet bend is ok, or even a series of 1/2 hitches, or a Hennessy style lashing.

Then use a taught line hitch or truckers hitch, 2 possibilities. to tighten up between the stakes and tarp. ( or of course fig 9s)

Don't run the guyline the length of the tarp. Bowlines are great as BB said. Figurne nine's rule. I'm using the nines with 7/64 Amsteel Blue, and I'm using 1.75mm Lash-It for stake lines.

Taut-line hitch will allow you to make easy adjustments in tension that won't slip. http://www.iwillknot.com/taut_line/

I'm a fan of the two-half hitches to attach the lines to the tieouts and then a good old Taut-line hitch for tension adjustment - one thing that scouts was really right about .

And no, no ridgeline required - just hook up your two ridgeline seams directly to the tieout locations.

Swoosh - I like to roll it a bit into a cylinder shape and then stuff that into the stuff sack. It can be a bit tough (especially when the fabric is new) to stuff it, but it will soften a bit with use. Either way it shouldn't matter too much, but thats how I do it.
