under leg pad preference and how low

For the 2/3 or 3/4 underquilt folks,
(1) what type of pad or other insulation do you prefer for use under the legs? and
(2) how low of a temp can you comfortably go with just that pad under your legs?

15x20'' reflectix, comfy down to 20.

I use a cut down CCF pad. If it's really cold (single digits) I double up the CCF pad.

Also putting the pad inside the footbox of your TQ or sleeping bag helps to keep it in place. I didn't do that the first couple times and the pad kept moving as I am a tosser and turner.

I use an inflatable rei sit pad blown up about half way so it curls around my feet. Been down to 15 comfortably with that

I use a nice CCF treestand seat pad that I got at the local sports store for around $5. With my HG Phoenix (which is actually pretty long) I took it to -1 w/o the wind chill and my feet were quite warm. I got the idea from a friend who had great results bringing a similar pad. Plus you can use it for sitting around a fire and for fanning the flames.

Thanks. I am a little surprised at how low just a thin pad can go. I already carry a sit pad while backpacking, so it seems to be a no brainer to get a partial underquilt.

fishwater you have some of the same questions I have. I have been trying to decide on what size quilt also.

I use an inflatable rei sit pad. I had it down to 30ish and had no issues. I like the inflatable pad as it's size when packed.
