I hit up the local quilting store and found batting for childrens blankets and quilts. I bought 2 yards of the stuff and then made a quilt using 1.1 ripstop and the batting. Not totally sure of the weight (just finished sewing last night...I'll post pics and weights later), but it is much lighter than the Coleman fleece bag I used last summer. According to the quilt-store-lady (that's her given name by the way) the batting can be used to make serious quilts for warmth, not just decoration, the again, she could just be a real good sales lady.

I thought the DDP and he neat sheet are pretty much the same material ? would it not be sticky under it since it is water proof?

It breathes better than any other waterproof material I've used...That being said, if your sweating, I could see it getting sticky.
For that 7-10oz weight, you could make a smallish Climashield 2.5oz TQ...Temp would be down to 50*F easy. You would have to cut down the size though...

DDP is made of microporous polypropelene which is very breathable.... IMHO it may be the most breathable waterproof material there is.

Second advantage of the DDP is it doubles as very ventable summer rain protection thus enabling the further reduction of weight in a redundant rain jacket.... pack cover too.

I agree with animalcontrol, the Neat Sheets are fairly breathable. Let there be no doubt, when it is warm I sweat....a lot. I am still comfortable under the Neat Sheets and I'm very much looking forward to trying out my NS UQ when the nights get a touch warmer out here.

would it not be unwise to wear your top quilt in the rain then try to use it wet to keep you warm? Unless DDP are so plasticky that they absorb no water at all? Then of course it would be uncomfortable to sleep in kinda like a VB bag

Maybe a silk sheet? has anyone tried this you can get them for about 5 oz maybe use two of them together might make a good summer alternative?
