Post DIY Underquilt source and blueprint.

    Hello,

If you don't mind pointing me in the right direction I'm contemplating the purchase of some Goose down and ripstop nylon , cordage, and (along w some Internet published blueprint ) giving the supplies and template to my wife's Jazzercize friend who is a Seamstress for a shot at getting her to make me an Underquilt.

Thanks in advance for the website leads.

HF member TeeDee has posted beautiful detailed instructions for a number of quilt projects. You could search his threads to see if there's an underquilt.

I just took a look at TeeDee's UQ plans, and unfortunately they're all for bridge hammocks. Sorry. Still, you can learn from him. Note that the bottom surface of his UQ is larger than the top layer. This differential is incorporated in the better underquilts for gathered end hammocks, too. Also, since the excellent work on the Red River Gorge Quilt design, people have improved their quilts by adding draft buffer tubes at the ends. In short, the Red River Gorge design may be the best single set of instructions available, but there are features such as these and the longitudinal down tubes mentioned by others that might be featured in up-to-date "state of the art" underquilt plans.

Or, You can buy the shell for a very reasonable price and stuff it and finish it yourself from Underquilts.com. Full instructions on finishing are on the site

+1 to what Zilla said unless you are doing it for the challenge or learning experience or your budget is tight.

I had worked on my first UQ while back and it turned out great. This thread had the progression of the design in it. You have to read through it abit to see some of the final drafts for the design.
