I was going to start a new project and went to get a roll of Tyvek and noticed it looked different. There seems to be two kinds at the hardware store, one is a woven white material seemingly exactly like the blue poly tarps, only I don't think it is as well sealed. The other, however, bears resemblance to the good old spun stuff, but it has a distinct grid pattern, if a bit random. I grabbed a corner and it ripped off with little effort. It seems to be very strong when pulled 45 degree, but it tears very easily when pulled parallel to any of the weave. There appears to be some spun fiber sandwiched between really thin layers of this gridlike material, but it does little to help strength, it instead fluffs when you tear it.
Well, that is a bummer. I guess I can bag any grand Tyvek plans.
