hey send me some info on the smoked butt hang at falls lake im only an hour from there
Welcome to the forums.
I usually put it on the groundsheet under the hammy with pack cover, but, I will start putting it in my UQP(under quilt protector)/gear loft when I'm in the hammock.
When I'm not in it, I will put it in the hammock to keep creepy crawlies out of it since the UQP/gear loft is also a hammock chair(love multi-use items). No snow here, always have crawlers out and about, hot or cold(less hot).
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
I run a separate line underneath my tarp, alongside my hammock. I clip my pack on and parrallel to the line and use it as a shelf and compartment to access all my goodies. The pack slides back and forth whenever I need to get something. Lighter stuff goes on my hammock ridgeline,ie. (glasses, headlamp, ext)
I got a zip up rain fly for my back pack so I put my back pack in the rain fly zip it up and place it on the ground under my hammock.
I used to hook mine to the suspension at the tree.
Then I started looking at something like a gear hammock for when the weather is bad. The MollyMac Gear Hammock was on the hit list for after Santa made his run to see what was in the stocking.
Then I won this from XTrekker:
I'll be using this little but of sweetness for the foreseeable future.
I apologize if it sounds like bragging. It was just such serendipity to get it just when I was wanting that. Heck of a start for 2014.

I always bring a piece of painters plastic folded up to use as a ground sheet. I place this under my hammock and put my pack on it in case it rains.
In the past, I've mostly used my gear hammock:

With my Ridge Runner, I've been playing with an Amsteel line that I run instead of my gear hammock that I just clip my pack off onto. Hope to get a video of that, as well as my Ridgerunner setup, out soon.

I usually wrap it up in my poncho if there is any chance of rain, otherwise it's just on the ground somewhere in reach.
I usually just lash a 18-24" stick to one of the trees and slip each shoulder strap over each end of the stick. That way I don't have to bend down to ground level to look through my pack. I use a pack liner so things don't get wet.
