    Future hanger in MD

    Hello all!

I hope to be a future hanger! It sounds more comfortable than the last time I camped in a tent and woke up sore. Originally from Upstate New York, currently in Maryland stationed at Ft Meade. Very new to army bases as I am active duty Air Force.

Previous camping experience is mostly car camping and camping with Boy Scouts as a kid. Hope to see more by going lighter and being able to hike in further into the woods.

Also looking for more comfort by hanging around lol! So far looking to get a Dream Hammock Freebird to start off my hammock gear addiction after much lurking on this site. Love the site! So much info and experience to easily get as spun up as possible while sitting at home.

Love those Shug videos lol. Sent my dad a link to the -40* video, he said Shug could keep it. He had enough cold weather camping during Boy Scouts getting Arctic Owl as a kid and when I got it!

Welcome aboard. I am close to Pax River Naval base in So. MD.
Your centrally located to some nice Western MD trails, or the Ap.Trail, or WV mountains for hiking and or camping. (not as pretty as Upstate NY, but it's all we got.) You cannot go wrong with a Dream Hammock. Get your order in so it'll be ready when the temps get back to somewhat reasonable levels.

Welcome to MD and to HF. My dad was stationed at Ft Mead for several years before he retired. You got lots of hangers around the area ifbya ever want to check out some gear. Id also suggest trying to make it to a group hang where ya can meet lots of like minded folks and check out lots of hammock rigs. Dream Hammocks are excellent gear. Enjoy the madness.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Welcome to the world of hammocks. I was stations at Ft. Meade back in 97-99. I liked it because it put me close to family I had not seen for some time. I was Army. you can get some cold weather up there so stay warm. Do you have any ideas as to what your first hammock is going to be?

Yup between the trails near here and the times I go home to visit family I will be able to have quite a selection of places to test out hammocks once I get the full set up. Like I said still looking over everything but right now I think I'm leaning towards a Dream Hammock Freebird, some quilts from Underground Quilts, and a tarp from Hammock Gear. Subject to change due to funds or whimsy lol.

Welcome from Hagerstown. I think you will probably be like most of us here and not look back at a tent. The overall comfort level motivates me to get out more often and go further than I would have.

I hope so! Though getting the time to go out is tough, have a 10 mo, 7 yo, and a 5 yo running around the house lol. Between that and the fact my wifes work schedule and my work schedule don't have the same days off makes it tough to go do things, cheaper on childcare but hard to go out.
