Will amsteel cut thru end channel?

I hope I can make this clear...
To rig up some whoopie hooks to make my web and buckle setup quickly removable from my hammock I would like to run a single loop of Amsteel thru the end channel. Normally I have an Amsteel loop larksheaded thru the end channel which results in two strands of amsteel in the channel. The loop I have in mind will have only one strand of amsteel in the channel. Will this put the pressure on too small a surface to the point of damaging the hammock fabric?

Larks heading a whoopie sling or UCR through the end channel is a common method of attachment and only places one "strand" of amsteel or the thinner dynaglide in the channel. In the almost three years I've been watching HF, I don't recall any problems with channel cutting.

Nope, no problem at all with your plan...the only way it would cut is if you had a lot of movement....creating a sawing effect...even then though amsteel by nature (well manufacturing design and intent there of) is extremely low friction as far as ropes go. It is made both in the type of fiber and the coating on it to have a greatly reduced friction on any contacting surfaces than most ropes.

When you hang your hammock though the ropes should not move a lot...say versus a winch or pulley system that amsteel is used on all of the time. You should get very little wear and tear from your suspension on a hammock.

It is always a good practice to check your suspension before and after each trip to look for signs of wear though.
