Speer IIIa + SnugFit w/ structural ridgeline and bugnet

Does anyone have any photos of a Speer hammock all rigged up with a SnugFit, structural ridgeline, and bugnet?

I've got a IIIa on the way, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get a SnugFit for it, but I'm not sure how to get all the pieces together in the best way.

Can you tell I'm used to using a HH?

Photos would be most helpful for me, but explanations will be much appreciated as well.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't have any here with me; maybe a couple at home. But, I bet there are dozens of pics in the gallery. You really won't need any help setting it up, it's crazy simple. The SnugFit just slips right on and the bugnet isn't much more difficult to figure out, just a couple of lines to tie-out and viola; napping in style. Not nearly as complicated as a HH IMO.

I'm assuming that you don't use a non-structural ridgeline for the bugnet if you've got structural one added right? I guess the main reason for my asking is that I'm not certain where I should attach the structural ridgeline for the Speer. Should it go where the non-structural one would go?

Also the SnugFit (if I've got this right) uses hook and loop all down both sides of the hammock, but it looks like it uses the same strips as the bugnet, so I'm wondering about how that works, more so than how to attach the UQ at either end.

I've looked at TONS of photos, and my question wasn't really answered.

if I am not mistaken the snugfit attaches to the hammock by the velcro, then the bugnet attaches to the snugfit by the velcro. The bugnet will go over the line supplied.

So either the bugnet or the UQ has velcro on both sides?

I am pretty sure one does. I don't have a snugfit but by looking at the pics on his site it looks that way. You might try emailing or calling Ed Speer if you can catch him before he heads out to trail days

The Speer model Snugfit has velcro that matches up with the velcro on the hammock. It also has a secondary velcro strip to which the bug net attaches.

Zoom in on this pic and you can see the velcro lip flips about a foot from the end. You should be able to see the velcro is on both sides of the top edge of the SnugFit. So, you attach to the hammock, then attach the netting to the SnugFit. Hope it helps.

The Speer hammock with a SnugFit is a near perfect combination. HC4U describes the construction perfectly. As for the structural ridge line, I tied mine, using Amsteel Blue (I think), just above the hammock whipping. You can experiment with different lengths until you get the 'hang' that suits you best. The bug net that comes with the Speer seems too narrow to me, so I use a bug net that WarbonnetGuy makes that encloses the whole hammock like a sock. This means that the non-structural ridge line that comes as part of the hammock is no longer needed. Others that use the stock bug net may offer better advice. My friend, Katz, at the SEHHA in April, was using my Speer. He missed his first try at launching into the hammock and ended up flailing about on his back, on the ground, inside the bugnet, with the hammock swinging over his head. The sight was well worth the price of the whole outfit.
