The Advantage of these is that it would let the water drain off, and gives you an attachment point for hammocks and lets you add to the shelter in the future if desired.
The disadvantages would be that it is a little less modular( I had considered adding enough to make a horseshoe shaped shelter that we could put a fire in the middle of). It also shortens the overall total distance of 10 ft since the ten foot pole is now at an angle and that makes it difficult to get a hammock hung in with suspension on it in that short of distance..
These are the dimensions as it stands:

Adding the diagonal roof obviously changes to needing two separate lengths of vertical poles. I am only 5’7” so the 5’10 height is fine, I just used the leftover pieces to space the modules apart. I have had 7 hammocks hanging with small people in them and swinging pretty good with no problems. I use paracord for the ties outs, Two on each end (to limit swaying with swing) and one on each side. As built it almost tore my tarp when I left it out in the rain and the rain didn’t drain off. Ideally I would like a longer tarp to give more coverage on the end hangers, I just tied the trp off to the 18” stakes with the frame. I don’t know how much it would hold, you could go with thicker pipe if you are worried about it. I think as long as you keep the forces in compression you will be fine. Down side: Every Time someone turns over everyone knows.
