And yes, I'm testing this. I don't quite have enough time for making the right decision about the quilts. Should I try wool or fleece on the CCF?

    Will take pictures when possible!
www.JacksRbetter.com has quilts in stock usually...
    Fine products too.

I tried to weather my first overnight with just a sleeping bag... talk about cold butt syndrome! you'll definitely need some insulation, if you can afford an underquilt that'd be the way to go, but a CCF pad will work. Will you be backpacking or car camping? If you're car camping, just bring a bunch of different blankets and clothes as well as your pad and I'm sure you'll be fine

===> Bottom insulation is paramount! Top can be almost anything. 'Convective Heat Loss' from underneath can be the most dangerous! Also, remember that your body heat is what makes down work! So if you wear many layers that prevent your own body heat from heating the small air pockets in the down, it will negate its effect, and you could be colder!

The three "W"s of winter/cold weather dress are:

Layer one: Wicking - a 'base layer', generally of synthetic fabrics or Merino Wool. This will take your perspiration away from your skin. Wet + Cold = hypothermia! Not to mention uncomfortable.

Layers two plus: Warmth - fleece or wool layers that will wrap you in warmth and help create/retain body heat.

Layer three: Weather - wind and waterproof or resistant outer layer, preferably breathable.

Wicking, Warmth. and Weather = the triad of cold weather comfort or survival!

    Good luck!

Lets us know how you make out!
