    Whipped or Sewn channel?

Which do you prefer, hammocks with whipped ends or hammocks that have a channel sewn into the ends and the rope passed through?

Why do you prefer one over the other?

thanks for your input, I'm building another, and hopefully final, hammock for a while.

    Tough call.

For me, overall comfort is determined by a combination features, not a single method. I've got channel end hammocks that I like very much. I also have ones that don't measure up for me. One advantage whipping has is the ability to effect the lay of the hammock. A "W" style whipping produces a large bump in that end, which can be very nice when used as a knee break. Play with the whipping long enough, trying enough different styles and subtleties and you will have a custom fitted hammock just for you. Not a bad thing.
    Trust nobody!

Lately I've been leaning toward sewn channels. IME there's a tad less squeeze at the ends and I can get by with a shorter, narrower hammock for a given level of comfort. YMMV, natcherly!

BTW, I've never seen that mythical creature, "the final hammock"...

Personally I think a sewn channel is the quicker, faster down and dirty way to do it. I say because there is only so much you can to to change and customize the end. Whipping you have at least three different options in terms of basic gathering, each with it;s own nuances of corner pull.center pul and off-centers gathering style.

Sewn channel is more stitch the beasty run the cord and hang to hammcok. But I don't have enough comfort with top loaders to have a real sense of which is actually better.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I saw it once but it quickly dissipated much like my recent paychecks.

tell me about it. I've probably spent enough on fabric, gross grain, thread, etc.. as it would have cost to buy a BB or claytor. Oh well, I'm still having fun.

I know what size I want it to be so I'm going cut and sew on the gross grain. Then I'll try it a few nights with whipped ends.

    Neither... sort of.

I like a double sheet bend on a folded in gathering like HC4U's HH clone (the gathering, not sheet bend). I do whip the flap after the knot though, for a bit of added security and aesthetics (but not until I'm very happy with the gathering). It's easy to undo a sheet bend, not as much whipping.

    How bout both?
My DIY hammocks use a channel with the whipping line threaded thru...cinch tight...whip (sorta) underneath.
This is the method used in Warbonnet BB hammock...review in this thread
It gives you a 'mass' of hammock material at the end that your suspension holds against.
Just wanted to muddy the waters further!
