Thumbs up The Alpine Hammock Rolling Review

    It came today! :thumb up:

Or should I say, they came today. I invested two of them at the Kickstarter over year ago.

    http://www.alpinehammock.com

It is smaller than I expected.

Workmanship is mostly good. All the necessary seams were sealed, but for example zipper was hard to open because the sealant had glued the zipper flap closed. But this is their first batch product. And I'm very happy that the sealing has been done already. Nobody likes to seal seams. So

First I went in without any insulation.

Very comfortable and roomy. I'm 6,3 foot long (193 cm) and weight 246 lbs (112 kg). Sorry for bad pic.

Next I did got my Wiggy's Ground pads, because I was getting Chilly. We have -15 C (5 F) currently. Here is a my review about these pads. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=85971

    Another shaken image...

Two Wiggy's Ground pads zippered together is a perfect match for the Alpine hammock.

There is a flap to close the ventilation at the apex of the hammock. Then one can see netting rolled to the side. No use for insect netting during winter time. Those small ears are the Origami ventilation closures.

Sorry again for the image quality.

    And again....

    Weather cover closed.

Easy system to hang - and unhang. I will roll the hammock up with sleeping bag and ground pads inside tomorrow morning when I wake up. That would not be possible if I was using air mattress. I will left webbings on their place and put the actual sleeping system behind locked door to my bicycle shed. This will test if condensation will accumulate after repeated use without drying sleeping bag or hammock inside.

    I'll be back tomorrow!

Didn't get any images. I'm interested to see a more detailed review. You're a tall guy and this seems like a short hammock. Did you actually hang in it yet? Three pounds is not terrible for such an all in one system, though I would imagine it being claustrophobic with the cover zipped up.

Weird! Images should be there, I do see them?

And this is a "rolling" review. I will write more, when I use the Alpine Hammock. Even after two years I will write again, if something interesting happens.

Hyvent is breathable but not air permeable, so how do you not suffocate?

First night out is over. Very nice hammock. I slept whole night with weather cover closed. Temperature was -15 C (5F). There is sufficient air flow through ventilation system, but not too much because there definitely is a micro climate inside that makes sleeping in cold easier.

Condensation was not bad, of course there is always some, even if using bug netting alone. But nothing extraordinary in condensation front - no frost bites in your nose.

Hammock is bit narrow at the foot end. When I slept on my side, it was hard/impossible to flex knees. The Alpine hammock is not normal hammock in that sense that you do not sleep diagonal, at least for me sleeping straight line between suspension points was the natural position.

Here are couple images from inside.

As you see, my nose is clean! I had a funny feeling that the hammock is somehow rotated to the left. As You see here origami ventilations are not horizontal. If it would have rained water, water would have poured right in from the ventilation behind my right shoulder. I did try to get hammock straight but then it did not feel right to lay in that position. We will see what is going on...

There is no ridge line, the black line is just a shadow. As You see there is good space between sleeping bag and weather cover.
