You should not lie, its wrong. Its probably all this heavy stuff that is making you lie, and perhaps you just need to lighten up so that its not heavy anymore and that way you won't feel like you have to lie as you lay in your hammock.

But seriously, I've taken the handwarmers and they do help, especially as you suggest. But besides not only the weight bringing them in, there's the dead weight bringing them out, not to mention the bulk of trash. At the very least, I would think a small hot water bottle about a half hour before turning in would warm things up to the point where you could use fewer of them.

I will get my stove all ready before bed to warm another pot for the hot water bottle if needed during the night. Its quicker to "cook" when the water has been between your legs instead of sitting out. Another benefit of alcohol stoves being silent so I don't wake anyone up.
