Hi everyone, I'm looking for the lightest tarp with doors I and find that's not Cuben. I would love to go with Cuben but I am worried about not being strong. Any suggestions? Thanks

The Tadpole is a great tarp with some options to choose from and comes in two ridge length choices.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
Hello, TDHanger.
If cost isn't a major issue, and it's really a concern of durability and weight - there are Cuben options that may be of interest to you. The fabric comes in various weights, and most vendors can do custom work if requested.
0.34 oz/sqyd - SUL Tarps
0.51 oz/sqyd - Standard UL Tarps
0.74 oz/sqyd - This was the option I thought you may be interested; or
1.00 oz/sqyd - Typically tent floors, rain jackets, etc. (Still light)
1.43 oz/sqyd - Backpacks, probably moving away from UL
Hope that helps, and like 2ply said, the Tadepole has a strong following of supporters and is light.
In your research look at the sylnylon being used. 1.1 is about as thin as I would go.
Also look at how much grosgrain is used around the edges and across the ridgeline.
Grosgrain edging does allow you to pull the tarp very tight but it is heavy.
Look at the nylon/plastic RL and pullout pieces. All add weight.
Side pullout add weight.
And last, how deep is the catcut? Deep cat cuts reduce weigh at the expense of side coverage.
hth, I'd be very interested what High quality tarp you decide on.

I've researched, the lightest tarp with doors is the Superfly, but others are close. I don't know how much the Tadpole doors weigh, but I can't see paying more for the tarp and door kit to have something smaller than the Superfly, and likely similar weight.
Personally, I have been using my Toxaway for years which I consider to be the lightest sil tarp of its size to be found. Was looking to buy a winter tarp (thus, the research) and decided to let 2QZQ sew cuben doors on my Tox. In terms of strength, I assume there's less to be concerned with on the cuben when you remove the ridgeline from the equation.

What size of tarp are you looking for? Integrated or detachable doors?
The only sil tarps with integrated doors I know are the Warbonnet Superfly and the OES Four Season tarp. Both are winter tarps and offer lots of coverage. Warbonnet also offers doors for all their other tarps. But since detachable doors need extra hardware, you won't be saving any weight over the Superfly.
I think 2QZQ offer door conversions for any tarp. They will sew on doors, which will save you weight compared with detachable doors. They also sell Grizz beaks.
Then there are a few tarp makers who offer custom tarps. Maybe they would make a tarp the size of the Edge/Tadpole with integrated doors. This should come in lighter than the 19oz most winter tarps weigh.
Wow thanks for all the info. I guess if I want to save weight I need to save for a Cuben. I just like having doors it's more private if you are in a public area and I worry about rain blowing in from the sides.

You could contact some of our vendors and see if they would be interested in make a custom tarp for you. You could also post on the forum to see if anyone of our members who sew would be interested in your project.
I jumped to cuben too quickly, now I only take it on long hikes where pack weight is all that matters. Which is only once or twice a year in summer. 99% of the time I bring a sylnylon with one set of doors.
best of luck
