Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Thanks for the laugh. It was rather informative. I did have to pause the video every once in a while to pick out some of the knots you use.

I am a long time rock climber and was daydreaming one day about how awesome it would be to sleep in the canopy. After researching like 10, 000 arborist blogs and videos I decided to aquire a static rope, a $12 hammock, and I used my rock climbing gear to ascend my first tree (and I froze my butt off cuz I didn't have any under insulation )

The lack of branches is a concern because trees usually taper upwards and especially since you use static rope. In a fall if that anchor slid up you would gain downward momentum. Then when the anchor hit a branch there would be no absorbtion of the dynamic force in the rope, creatiing a shock loading possibly sufficient to cause gear failure. It's exacerbated by the choice of knot that only has one loop around the tree (thus little friction to stop that slide). That knot has no backup shown either. I'd much prefer to see a tensionless hitch with a double figure eight backup. The tree itself looks fine, it's not going anywhere.

Incidentally, have you seen this? http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor...-the-Knot.html
