Talking Hey all you hangers! From Sunny Scotland.

Hey guys, this forum is so invaluble so thanks to all the friendly folk who have contributed to make it what it is!
I got hooked on Hammocks this Summer when I was going on a cycle trip to the Balkans and as a last minute decision I thought "hey a hammock might be cool but I'll probably not use it" I then went on to spend 50 days out of the next 2 months in it and I will never ever take a tent with me again!
It's great to see everyone's gear and I've been scouring the site for tips and inspiration for my next diy project which will be a down peapod quilt. I'll put my plans up for people to critique but hopefully it'll be all the best things from every design in one. Or a total disaster who knows!
    Anyway safe hanging guys!
    Cheers, Ollie

Hey, and welcome from a fellow scot! I'm just outside Edinburgh.
Good luck on the peapod, looking forward to seeing it.... do you have a good source for down? I've been looking but can't find anything as cheap as in the US.

Welcome from a scot at heart (I am a Stewart). The DIY forums are great. I'm just finishing up a down hat from plans on the forums, but you need to be a donating member to view the non-hammock forums (highly recommended). Be careful, DIYing is addictive - 2 tarps, 4 hammocks, top quilt, under quilt, 4 pairs of wristies, gear hammock, 3 sets of whoopie slings, 2 sets of UCRs, 3 adjustable ridgelines, 2 ridgeline organizers, bishop bag, countless stuff sacks,....

Hey Cragie! I've lived near Leith for about 10 years and now I live in Dundee for 4 years, are there any UK meet-ups at all?
What's your hammocking set-up just now for Scotland? I must confess I've never hammocked in the UK because all I have so far is a Tenth Wonder hammock which probably isn't up to the weather.

The down was actually pretty hard to get, I've spent the past few weeks trying to track it down (but I have some contacts who import stuff so i could get some leads) and I've managed to source some 700 loft Polish 95% down for about £15/100g, the only downside (no pun intended) is I've had to order 2kg of which I'll maybe use 500g(?) so you're welcome to some if you ever need it. I'm happy with that price anyway, seems to be OK.

Hey Doogie, you should come to Scotland and visit your roots!
Down hat sounds pretty interesting I've definitely never heard of that before, also I would certainly be up for donating, it seems like a good cause but I didn't know the benefits. I agree about the DIY,
I'm very excited about my plans and hopefully my gf won't mind me commandeering her sewing machine. It seems so much more accessible than woodwork or other DIY hobbies because you really only need a few basic tools.

Visiting Scotland on my list of things to do some day. I enjoy hiking, golf, and scotch (not necessarily in that order). If you have not checked out Shug on YouTube, check you his series of hammock videos. He is a professional entertainer and his videos are a lot of fun and informative. I think that is where I first saw the down hat.
Others have found that if you make some stuff for your gf they don't mind their sewing machine (aka - thread injector) being commandeered.

AAh so THAT'S what thread injector is! I thought it was some specialist piece of equipment, but it's just men being men. I'll check out that youtube channel and thanks for the PM!

Welcome, from Canada. The small donation gives you access to all the other areas of camping besides the hammock itself such as stoves, clothing, water filters, backpacks, bicycle camping, cookware, cutlery, paddling, and some totally off topic threads. It all ties in
