    Finally... I can sew something.

Thanks in a huge way to gmcttr for his help I have my singer 476 up and running. I took a simingly well running machine and fixed a reverse stuck and a shattered upper gear. I figured out how to take it apart and more importantly put it back together. Getting the upper gear out and the new one in was a challange. Finding out why the reverse was stuck also a challange. Putting it back together, fixing the timing and adjusted the bobbin tension (because my 3 yo daughter undid it). All this without any knowledge of sewing or what anything on the machine does.
Well today I made a pocket. Not the best work anyone will see, but a pocket none the less. Tomorrow maybe a stuff sack or bishop bag.
And soon I will have 2 machines to use...

If you can take a sewing machine apart and put it back together you should be able to sew a pocket. Mine was acting up and I looked inside and decided there are people who do this for a living. Looked like the inside of a nuke reactor to me. Congratulations.

Very good sir, made me and my wife laugh. I rather enjoyed working on them.

Nice job. Don't you just love it when someone says 'If you can fix it you can have it"?

fabulous! It amazes me to no end the wealth of knowledge on this site, and how that knowledge is shared so freely. I'm a newbie thread injector myself, and without the help here, I wouldn't even know how to thread the darn machine!

I do. I was given a laptop the other day that was destined for the trash heap. Wouldn't boot, no display, nothing. 5 minutes on Google, 10 minutes of repair and it is working just fine. All I had to do is to replace the CMOS battery. Even had a new battery in my junk drawer.

Nice going Jeremy! Soon you'll have tarps and hammocks all over the place.
