A lesson learned in underquilt suspension

I'm excited today for a silly reason and feel quite foolish to boot. Turns out I've been hanging my UQ incorrectly since I got the darn thing... It dawned on me this morning and I changed it around and TADA! Like magic it works like it's supposed to. I've been hanging the thing and attaching the clips to the gathered ends from under the hammock the whole time... Never thought to run the hammock through the loops and THEN clip the UQ to the ends...

Anyone else have that kind of bonehead moment?

...hope I'm not the only one.

The actual suspension for the UQ. The shock cord makes a loop at each end of the UQ with a mitten hook on it to clip to the hammock end

Can you post a pic of what you're talking about? What kind of UQ are you using?

I've got a te-wa breeze. It's a 3/4 length UQ so it has shock cord to get it to the ends of the hammock. The suspension is similar to the HG Phoenix. I'll upload some pictures later

That required you to unhook the hammock at each end so you can connect from the top right?

Why don't you try looping the shockcord to the gathered end, from the bottom, and bring the shockcord up on each side and use an S-biner up top. You get the same effect.

I think hammock length has a lot to do with it. My 8 1/2 foot hammocks do well with the traditional UQ/biners but my 11+ foot hammock does better with these triangle thingees to reduce the angle of the attachment point.
You can make your own out of cord or buy nice ones from Arrowhead. (Paul promised us a video on this soon:>)

That's exactly it, never thought of using an s biner to do it though.

You might be right about the length. The way Te-wa attaches the suspension to the UQ it works as a fixed position where on the HG stuff (it seems) the quilts can actually slide along the suspension.

I've thought on the aptly named "triangle thingies" and have considered using prussiks on my SRL if I really wanted to give that a go. These UQs seem to work well for mine and my wife's 11' hammocks though. We're going hanging today
