    Question Project time!

I would like a pattern to make a WBBB clone, but this'll be my first DIY hammock. I want to make it without a bugnet, so I can sleep in it full time. Where can iI get the fabric? Is nylon sold at a regular fabric store? So, I have a few questions, and Ill list them below.

    1. Any patterns for a WBBB clone?
    2. What nylon to make it out of?
    3. Is the nylon is sold at local fabric stores?
    4. Im only 130 lbs, and 5' 2", so can I use a normal sewing needle and thread?( i have a sewing machine already)

And I think that is it, so thanks for any responses recieved!

    My best answers:

    1. i do not know if anyone has published any sort of pattern for a WBBB similar hammock. Try reading all the stickies and doing some searches.

    2. Ripstop nylon 1.9 oz.

    3. The best nylon at a typical US fabric store will be 1.9 oz ripstop. The fabric store will not publish any technical information. The clerks will not know what weight ripstop is on the bolt. You do take a small chance on the weight and quality, until you gain some experience.

I would recommend you buy the nylon from one of the small stores which cater to DIY people. The price will very likely be better than full retail at the fabric store. You will know exactly what you are buying. The only downside is having to wait for the mail to arrive. Plus you get a better choice of colors for your hammock.

    4. Your weight is not an issue. Thread should be all polyester. No cotton content at all. If you get the thread from the cottage vendors, you will be getting the right stuff.

At a buck thirty you should be able to get away with 1.1 ounce ripstop.

Normal needle and thread... Make sure you use something that is 100% poly. You will not want cotton if you are going to be using the hammock out of doors.

You can get fabric from your local Joann's or Hancocks Fabric store but like DavyRay said, it will be 1.9 ounce ripstop (more than likely). My first hammocks were for my kids and they were made from the local Hancock's 1.9 fabric. It tends to be a little stiff initially but they are solid hammocks.

As far as a WBBB clone for a hammock w/out the integrated bug net??? not seen one but it is my understanding that the WBBB hammock's unique pattern is more to keep the bug net off or your feet. I would attempt a WB Traveler clone.

Best of luck and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
