    Tarp for two???

    Hey guys and gals,
I'm gearing up for some hammocking with my wife, daughter, and dog. I currently have an OES MacCat Deluxe for myself and two Etowah Outitters Diamond shaped tarps for my ladies. One of the diamond tarps is not large enough for a windy/rainy situation as the rain will get to the hammock. I think it's only 8 foot from corner to corner.

So enough about what I do have.

I am wanting to get another tarp and thought it might be beneficial to get one that I can do a three-tree hang from with the daughter or wife. I THINK that the deluxe might work for this but since I need to get another tarp anyway I feel I should get a larger one just in case.

I was thinking of getting a MacCat Ultra. But I'm not affluent with enough other hammocking tarps to know if there is something better?

    What do you all think?

I can't help with the tarps, because I'm not familiar enough with tarps. But a thing to consider if you're buying a tarp large enough for three is the added challenge of finding the right configuration of trees to hang from...it would limit your options IMHO.

I agree. I will still bring three tarps for a while until I get comfortable with finding such ideal situations. I'm in the Western NC mountains so I have plenty of options for a three tree hang, it's the tarp that may pose the problem.

It is also possible that I just use two tarps and overlap them I think?

You could overlap the tarps you have create a larger covered area or contact Sean at Ox Gear for a custom family tarp. He does great work at good prices. I love the Ox Palace he made for me.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Yeah!! I just sent him a quote request. Stuff looks nice. May still be a better idea to have two overlapping tarps though. That way i have the versatility to have the hammocks in separate locations if needbe.

    JRB 11x10

I have a JRB 11x10 that I used for a three tree hang several times.

JRB 11X10 would work or one of the bullfrog tarps from wilderness logics and if you wanted to go cheap kelty Noah 12 or 16..... There was just a thread I was reading where a guy hung 2 hammocks under the 12 with a hut configuration... I will see if I can dig it up

Our H12 or either WD11/12 will provide coverage for two ham-mockers in a three tree configuration. Missy Lou and I slept this way when she started hanging so she felt she was safe and close by her man.... Now she prefers me to sleep under my own tarp on my own trees so as to not disturb her beauty sleep...

In a three tree setup how would you get a tarp like that centered between both hammocks?

My wife and I hang under an OES 4 season tarp, from two trees utilizing spreader bars between our suspensions at both ends. No need to look for three trees, all though I have done that. Its a plus because I have a winter tarp for when it is too cold for the wife.

Not sure how others have done this, but when I have done it, I go around two trees with my ridgeline, center my ridgeline between the two trees, tie a figure 8 knot in the free end, clip a carbiner into this knot, then then tie a marlin spike hitch in the working end of the ridgline and clip the carabiner into this. Other end of the line goes to the single tree. Hard to explain....I wish I had a pic for ya.
