Appalachian Trail and why I quit.

Yo guys, you can find the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QetGSciIpVE

A few more I am editing and more on the channel itself but didn't want to post here because the language gets a little non-family friendly from time to time. The other videos that will be listed on the channel are from the actual trip and views.

Anyway hope you fellas/ladies enjoy it. Catch you on the flipsiiiiide.

Interesting and oh so true experience.

Some people are group hikers or companion hikers.
Others are loners ( as was I).

I felt like this several times until I ran into a 280 pound guy named HoboOboe and his dog. He had thee most amazing attitude EVER!
My encounter with him along with having found and caught up to him with Gertie's collar was the incident I needed to push on.

I do hope you get out to section hike in the future.
I look forward to your videos.

I feel the same about hiking with a partner. I have never had a desire to hike alone and doubt I ever will. I hope to do a nobo thru hike one day but will only do it if I find someone who will also go along.

Interesting. I would assume this is way too early to start among other things. From reading an occasional trail journal my impression is that later in the year your would have had a floating crew to keep meeting up with as you leap frogged each other.
    YMMV

Great out look at the end. You learned something about yourself and didn't fight your nature. Some people don't like to be out by themselves and prefer to share their adventures with others. While some enjoy the solitude to spend time with their thoughts and emotions. I'd guess most of us fall somewhere in the middle. I know I do almost all of my outdoor time solo out of necessity and I've grown to enjoy it, but I also enjoy having others around for the camaraderie as well. Maybe one day I'll get the chance to find out if I'm a long distance hiker or just a weekend warrior.

When I was younger I use to hike with a group but these days I usually end up going by myself as I can not find anyone who wants to go. My wife was going to go with me last year to the AT for a week but had to bail at the last minute when her mother got sick.

These days I find I enjoy hiking by my self as I don't have to worry if I getting ahead of others or not able to keep up. Also I don't have to ask others if they think we should stop here or continue on.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Many of the pros and cons of both soloing and having a group however large are small, you guys/ladies mention...

I do find that I fall right in the middle of sometimes liking solo and sometimes liking groups. Hilariously I usually want the opposite of whatever i am currently in(working on that).

As far as not having anyone around who wants to hike, isn't it hilarious that there are so many of us who dig hiking but we are all so far apart?

Now you know what you don't like. i didn't like losing 50lb in 50 days . i hiked 550 miles Jan-Feb '09. winter hiking is a different animal then winter camping. hiked most of it alone. i messed up my knee on the approach trail and it didn't stop hurting till Tray Mt. next year i'm hiking after March
