    Tarp for two

My son and I are starting to backpack together. Hammocking is our future, and we want to be both under one tarp.

The only thing I can think of that is a negative to Hammocking over tenting is that the former naturally lends it self to isolation, where as the latter naturally brings two campers together.

Would you all give recommendations for this arrangement and your experiences? Will the Warbonnet mambajamma, 11' hex tarp be large enough? Would it be better to go with two 8x10's and connect them together?

If you stack your hammocks over one another then the warbonnet tarp will work good depending on what hammocks you have

folks have done a 3 tree hang (2 side by side close) and covered with the mj, but it will need to be pitched wider and may not provide full side coverage in that config.

My son and I have done quite a few double hangs under my 10 x 10 flat tarp and it's been plenty of coverage. But I always end up bringing my 9 x 5 tarp as well just in case we can't hang side by each. The double hang is cool, but I think you might be on to something with the two 8 x 10's. You just have so many more options, and as your son gets older, you can spread out a little.

My wife and i hang together. We like to hang side-by-side. 3 trees is the best for that, but here in the Northwest we have been able two use two trees if one is large enough to spread us by attaching the lines so they come off the sides of the tree. You can also use a spreader bar between the head end of the hammocks, but I don't prefer this method because each hammock is affected by the other. If one is unloaded the other hammock moves and it's lay is changed.
