    help with the underquilts

has anyone had the problem with their underquilts not giving off the same heat as they where when they first started using them. I had this problem one time before and also my boyfriend was using a zero degree underquilt and got chilly, not freezing and it was only 33 degrees outside.

Shake them and fluff them to migrate the down to the spot you want it.

I agree with Shug (I mean, who wouldn't, but I digress). I have a 3/4 length underquilt that I tried one night and it just didn't keep me warm. I checked and was sure that I was sealed up all around the hammock, but I was still cold by morning. I put it away for a few months and played around with different pads with varying success. But I kept reading testimonies of people who loved their UQs and were warm in a lot colder weather than what I had tried.

I got my UQ back out and noticed that most of the down had migrated to the ends. I shook it back into the center of the quilt and hung it up. This time it worked like a charm! Shake it and give it a try.

I agree with shaking gently. I always overfill my quilts, so that may be why I never seemed to notice down moving around.

In contrast, I have a 30° Marmot sleeping bag where shaking and moving the down manually is absolutely necessary - some spots you can see thru with a flashlight! Other spots it's nice and thick. I don't know of any underquilts to this extreme, though.

never compress your down while storing. When you get to your destination, let your down have time to decompress.
