    Recommendation for OQ

I have a HH and am planning on doing mostly winter camping. I am wanting to buy a HG over quilt and was wondering how well the 20 degree would do with a 20 degree UQ from HG. Most of my camping would be in AL but hope to one day hang in the Rockies or up north in general. Just wondering what realistic temps I could get with this setup. By the way my plan is to buy a full length HG UQ.

My HG 20* Incubator underquilt with an UQ protector from 2QZQ (http://www.2qzqhammockhanger.com/ham...cessories.html) took me to 17. I believe it would take me lower but we don't get many days that cold and I used the UQ protector because I was using a smaller tarp what didn't provide a lot of wind protection. The UQ protector keeps the wind from stealing your warmth and adds to your lower temp. range--some people have said about 5-10 degrees. You will find that owning a hammock is kind of like owning a motorcycle. There's always something you need.

FYI, 2QZQ also does Hennessey zipper modifications.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I think with your location a 20* would be all you need. However; that depends on if you are a cold sleeper or not. If your cold weather camping up north will not be that often, I would get the 20* and supliment it when needed. You can use a fleece blanket with the TQ, but you will also need to supliment the UQ, which is more important then the TQ.

I don't know if you've read this or not, but take a look: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=86313
I too have been scoping out the 20* version, but I wouldn't get it until September as a down quilt upgrade for the winter. As Cali said, if it's not enough you could always supplement with clothes & pads.

I have looked into the underground quilts and like them. I haven't actually used or been around any quilts, for some reason I'm am just drawn to the hammock gear quilts. Hopefully I can talk someone on hear into donating different types of quilts for our explorer post, then I might have a better idea for when I purchase one for myself.
