So I'm making new guy lines for my tarp

I finally got around to making my new guy lines for the tarp my wife and I use. I decided to try and make 8 separate 6' lines out of 1.25mm Z-Line Spectra cord and I'm attaching it to the tarp via prussiks made with Lash-It. I'd like to have used tech line from DIYGear supply but I have plenty of lash it so... There's that.

So I'd use a MSH with a slippery half hitch to attach to the stake and then I can adjust the tightness from inside the tarp and then lock it in on the prussik with another slippery half hitch.

Anyone have experience doing it this way?

That's how I do mine except I have fixed loops for the stakes. Is the lash-it the same size or smaller than the Z-line? Prusiks work best when they are smaller than the line they are wrapped around. More wraps can compensate if they prusiks don't hold.

I like a knot free way of doing guy lines so I use a loop of shock cord that is permanently run through the D ring on the tarp and through the hole on a line loc.

All my tech-lines have loops spliced into the stake end and are fed through the line locs.

The shock cord keeps the tarp taughtly pitched even in rain and wind and the tech-line deploys quickly and easily and is easily adjusted at the line loc.

I wondered about that as well. Since that thinnest Lash It is 1.75mm it is larger in diameter than the 1.25mm Z-Line.

I never have the need to tighten my lines during the night. My lines are "permanently" tied to the tarp. I use spyderline and tie slippery tautline hitches to trees, roots, rocks or a stick I push into the ground. I don't use stakes.

I had considered fixed loops at the ends, I'll give the Marlin spike a go and see how I like it from there. The Lash it is 1.75mm so it IS a bit bigger, hence the slippery half hitch to lock the spectra down.

That sounds like it would go up in a flash. Do you have any pictures to share?

Now this sounds like a great set up. How long is your shock cord loop?

I cut the shock cord in 16" lengths so by the time you tie an overhand knot in it you're at about a 6" loop.

You might want to go a little shorter but I wouldn't bother to go any longer.

Thanks for the info. i currently have surgical tubbing shocks and don't like them.
