Quick ? about Marlin Spike Hitch for whoopie

So I just got my new Warbonnet in and am in the backyard trying to set it up. The tree straps are just long enough to fit around the trees and back through themselves but not long enough to allow me to do a Marlin Spike Hitch (at least as I have seen them done). The strap has sewn in loops on both ends, so if I just pull the little bit of remaining strap thru the end loop and insert the toogle is that creating a suffient suspension point. I've got it up right now using this method and the whoopie is anchored on the strap alone and not the toogle but I have not gotten in it yet to test the strength. I don't want to mess something up right away. Thanks

I don't think the threads in the sewn loops at end of the strap are designed to carry the load of your hammock, which is what your setup sounds like... you must have some large diameter trees in your backyard? ...may need some hugger extensions.

In my experience that should work. I have done that on several occasions.

Do you have a carabiner? If so, just clip in into the loop after you pull it thru and loop the whoopie into it. If you don't, trust me, think about getting a couple...they always seem to come in handy.

Im using the smallest trees I've got and I consider them to be a bit smaller than average for the area, but yea I may have to get some new tree straps. But from the way Im looking at it, it doesn't look like the sewn loops are actually taking the weight. I'll try to get a picture up.

I had wondered about that but wasn't sure if the sewn loops were meant for that kind of stress or not. I don't have any load bearing carabiners at the moment but I plan to pick up a few just in case.

If you are good with amsteel you can make some extenders.
I carry a set of these in my ditty bag for that very reason.

Oh and the sewn loop are designed to hold your weight.

Yes so long as your toggle is reasonably stong as it can get more load this way than in a MSH.

I would recommend a carabiner instead of a toggle in the photo you posted.
