WBCSUQ with 1 layer of 2.5 oz CS?

I have been too slow and lazy to get the hammock set up early while it is still cool enough to test this. So I'll just ask for some opinions, hoping some one has some experience.

What kind of temps do yall think 1 layer of Climashield ( probably 2.5 oz XP with a clo of 2.1) will be good for as an UQ? 60*F maybe? 50*F?

Last fall, enough layers for a clo of app. 7.8 proved plenty warm for mid 20s. Probably could have gone lower. Assuming I would need a little something at 70*F( maybe 75 and depending on wind/rain etc) that would be about 55* worth of protection. So, I'm guessing this might be good for about 15*F worth of protection? So maybe 55*F? At 70-75*F it felt almost to warm unless I vented it, though it might not have been once my metabolism dropped thru the night, or with wind and humidity.

Any body with any experience using one layer of 2.5 oz CS XP as an UQ?

    BB,
I have DIY UQs of all 3 weights of Climashield...great stuff!
My temp ranges for each weight are as follows...
    2.5oz/yd = 45-50*F summer weight
    3.7oz/yd = 35-40*F fall/spring
    5.0oz/yd = 25-30*F early winter

In my testing, the Climashield weights CLO rating were spot-on as TQs...I lost 5-10*F of capacity switching from a TQ to an UQ for the same material. (this was tested on the mid weight material and I carried that result to the other weights...the ranges worked for me)

DriDucks poncho to add 5-10*F if needed in a pinch

this is simple rectangle cut pieces (summer one 2/3 length) using 1.1 ripstop nylon on both sides.

hope that helps and your temp ranges might vary

Thanks, AC! That agrees with my guess, more or less. So the temps listed are for TQs, and subtract 5-10 for an UQ? (That is about what I figured also). So looks like this might get me to some where in the 50s, low 60s for sure, if I can keep the wind blocked. That is about what I was guessing. So I will give it a try at those temps ASAP.

This is going to be attractive as a late spring/summer/early fall quilt, depending on location of course- as it will only weigh about 9.5 oz! And I might not even need a leg pad most of the time, saving a little more weight.

CS is the newest version of PG, and Climashield XP is the lightest ( for warmth) version of the CS, as opposed to Combat and a few other versions.

All of it comes in dif weights ex: CSXP2.5 weighs 2.5 oz per sq yard, or XP5 weighs 5 oz/sq.yd and is twice as thick and twice the "CLO", a debatable and ballpark means of comparing and rating warmth of insulation. Sort of like "R" factor.

I have no idea what all that means but if it works for you then it is good I guess

Yea, it is some good stuff...my 2.5oz/yd quilt is 36"x51" and weighs right at 7oz and packs down small.
    You'll be fine at 55-60*F

Thanks, I have the same UQ and have been wondering the same thing. I plan to just leave two layers in mine, it isn't worth the work to remove the second layer.
