Good stuff, Yes I got my wife a new sewing machine for christmas, so now I have the ols one to myself. No more changing out her whimpy needles and pink thread. I say get a sewing machine and learn to sew. I hear if you are making camping equipment it wont even cost you a man card.

I am probably one of the few active members who remember the origin of the term "thread injector" as used on HF. I can assure everyone it was in no way reflective of any misogeny or loss of manhood. Quite the opposite. At the time the active DIY community could be counted by one person without taking their shoes off. Now you would need several barefoot friends.

As we were posting amongst ourselves about the joys DIY gear other folks, usually men, would make a comment about the unfamiliarity of the sewing machine and it's perceived complexity and mystery. In an effort to make the sewing machine approachable to these guys we would remind them the sewing machine is really nothing more than a "power tool". All "guys" (Read Dave Barry's Guide to Guys for full insight) are comfortable with power tools. The term stuck. It was all tongue in cheek and apparently quite useful as the DIY crowd grew to its present form.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

    Alternative to actual sewing?

I just came across this video of Prolite Gear talking about nylon "welding" technology and options. I also just posted a topic (here: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=87491) specifically about this welding idea to draw out those that are knowledgable.

Izraelius - just saw your post and video. Looks like just what I was looking for. I've been practicing my hand sewing on some scraps but I'm not going to take on a big project until I've looked into this...
