Tighter pitch. My first HG tarp had a straight-cut ridgeline and it was a pain in the butt to get a taut pitch - I had to run the ridgeline under the tarp (which I don't like to do) to get a good pitch.

The cat-cut ridgeline is infinitely better.

I have a old z-packs cuben tarp without the bonding and seamsealed the sewn ridgeline... i have used it probably 25+ times at this point in various weather and seasons and there are 0 signs of failure.

I use a continuous ridgeline under the tarp and find i can easily get it as tight as a drum without catcuts. With cat cuts i could have potentially used a different ridgeline set-up, but i don't have a problem with this.

edit: Cuben does not stretch, i had cat cuts in a silnylon tarp that were mandatory to get a tight pitch -- this is not the case with cuben and a full rectangle provides slightly better coverage.

With cuben tarps it seems to be somewhat less necessary however I prefer at least a slight cat in the ridgeline while leaving the baseline straight which allows a tighter pitch to the ground for windy conditions.

Ok so I decided to go with HG. Now for advice on which tarp to get, Standard with doors or winter palace? 11' or 12' ridge line. I am using a 10' hammock now but might get a 11' in future. I see people go both ways with this. Some use 11' tarp with 11' hammock because you can pitch it lower. What do you all think.

    Thanks

I have the 11' standard. It has worked out great. The winter palace looks sweet though if you live somewhere with lots of rain and wind. They did not have that available when I purchased mine. For me the 12' ridge line seems excessive.

Yea I'm really thinking about the Palace with 11" ridge line. Just have to decide if want camo or not. Think I might like the view of the regular one.

It's a little bit louder than silnylon but it's like living in a home with a tin roof, your just tranced to sleep.
