    Big Agnes

Has anyone in here tried the big Agnes system with their hammock. My old bag needs to be retired and I'm open to anything. Any thoughts.
    Cheers.

When I first started hammocking I used my big agnes with pad in sleeve. I since have upgraded to TQ and UQ but do use a 50 degree big a bag converted to a TQ and works great.

I have a BA Fishhawk 30* bag that I use in the hammock. I have used a ccf pad in the sleeve. It worked OK, but then I got an underquilt and never went back. I still use the bag as a topquilt.

+1 here. My Big Agnes Lost Ranger with inflatable pad was my primary insulation for a while - works OK as long as you don't put much air into the pad - but once I got a TQ and UQ this became obsolete. It was always a bit of a wrestling match trying to get into the bag and get the pad properly positioned...

I like my gunn creek for certain trips. I think if you don't go underquilt, BA is a great system. With a 20 inch wide pad, you might have to supplement your shoulders, but other than that it works great.

I've been using a BA Grouse Mountain 15 bag as my top insulation with a 0 Incubator below, and it works just fine. It's surely not as convenient to get in and out of nor as compact to pack as a top quilt would be. But I like that I can take it to ground, too, when I'm tent camping with my whole family, and having the full mummy hood without buying extra things like a down hood is nice. I've had it down to 5F with a hot water bottle inside and was perfectly toasty.

I used my Gunn Creek 30 with an Insulated Air Core and HH's double bubble pad under that in about 45 degree weather and wearing my fleece. I slept but I was most definitely not warm, I have considered modifying it to a TQ and just buying an UQ until I can afford a down TQ. My other problem was that in the HH with the pad inflated it left even less headroom than the HH already has no big deal but was slightly annoying. From my experience if I am using BA gear and say expecting 45 degree nights bring a 15 degree bag.

On the other hand comfort/tolerance is relative to what you are used to. I come from KY but at the time of this trip I had lived in Phoenix AZ for five years and was used to 80 degree nights and 110 degree days. Now I would probably have no issue with that setup on a 45 degree night.

Thanks for all of the input gents. I guess I'm just looking for a shoulder season insulation option. +\- 5* from freezing and I thought the idea had some benifit. Again thanks for all of the input and experiences.
    Cheers.

I use a LL Bean 0 down bag rectangle @ app $220. Takes me to below just 40 with no other insulation. A piece of single bubble reflective slid into a wallpaper l d fleece bag & I'm good to 30. Below that I add my underquilt.
