Arrow Hung on Basement Support Jack.....House Collapsed

So I was hanging between two jack posts in the basement ....

The entire house came down around me....

    This didn't really happen.

    But I have your attention

I'm thinking about doing this but am unsure if it would be a bad idea or not.

    Any Tips?

I hang in the basement from floor/ceiling joist. I'm not full time, but I'm not worried about it at all

It's fine if the posts are securely anchored top and bottom.

I had thought about that as well if the Jacks weren't a good Idea...

How high is the ceiling in your basement?

Mines like 7 ft so Im wondering if that might be too high?

would be cool if it wasn't.

    How did you attach supports?

I have 1/2" holes drilled through the joist I use as an anchor point. My basement ceiling is pretty high; about 8'. It means my anchor points are pretty far apart to get the right lay.

    ah ha.....!

    makes sense.

Haven't actually moved in yet .

and didn't look at that at all last walk through.

It is a ranch with a basement that used to be a garage so there's a huge steel I beam running through the center with some pretty heavy duty jack posts.

Hopefully they are secured cause that would be simple.

Use the beam, why wouldn't that work?

Honestly I had no Idea if the beams would work until I made this thread.

I guess they would work just fine.

I definitely would use either if they worked.

The jacks just seemed simpler in my mind I guess.

My concern with the floor jacks, yes I have used them, is the force on them is supposed to be directed vertically. By introducing a lateral force to them you are changing the directional engineering of the post. I was not happy with the idea. Cheap nasty jacks could give way at the screw entry. I stopped using them as soon as I could. Plus my basement is so dusty I'd end up with black lung disease if I hung down there for any length of time.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
