Where's the view? (total newbie question)

    Hello,

This might be what some might call a "stupid question", but here it goes anyway....

I have taken my Freebird out for a few spins now, and when I lay in it, in any position, I can't see much at all, except for right where my feet are and up to the sky (I don't have a tarp yet). From what I've read here, I get the impression I should be able to see beside me more. And it's not like it's extra wide either, only 58".

I've tucked the edge under my knee while laying on my side, but it's not very comfortable.

    Am I doing something wrong?

check your HANG ANGLE, according to the chart

when i'm in my sling, i can see to the right over my feet & to the left over my left shoulder

if i roll, to the right "just so", i can see to the right side, fairly well

if your fly is tethered for weather, you wont have much of a view, at all

for THE VIEW, you'll have to use some kind of poles or pull outs, creating THE PORCH effect

you've got a lot of reading to do

i'm bettin you will get it, & soon

    happy hangin

I agree. Try adjusting your sag on the hammock suspension. The tightness of those suspension lines have some rather profound effects. Since all hammocks are a bit different, there is some trial & error involved. Start with the suspension lines 30* to horizontal, then adjust both directions from there. It requires a lot of hopping in & out of the hammock, but you need some exercise because once you get it dialed in, you won't move until someone calls you for dinner

Ha ha! Thanks. I've actually been reading this forum and other sites like crazy. I think you're right though about the angle. When I look at my feet, I don't have half as much of a viewing window as you. I'm a right to left hanger, and the hammock to the left of me is sky high hammock. Could it be the angle I'm laying at too? It's pretty comfy.

Someone's been spoiled. I wish someone would call me for dinner, but that's up to me. Your right, though, once I get in there, it's hard to hop out, I just want to bask in the magical comfort that is a hammock, even if for a few hours.

I'll try hopping and adjusting the angle more.

Thanks for your help your two!

Ha! Yeah, Missy Lou has already shared her pics of her roaming gnome under a winter dream with me.

    ----------------------

Well, I took my Freebird for another spin, and let 'er sag much more than I had before. The ridgeline was almost, but not, floppy, and then when I got in tightened up, but not too taught. Before the ridgeline was taught before I got in. Does this sound right?

The result? Even MORE comfort and a BETTER VIEW!!! I'm now a happy camper (literally)!

    Thanks for your input!!!
