Hang the tarp lower….add doors or beaks to tarp…..put a ridge line on the hammock to shorten it up. Add drip strings or dutch buckles to stop water running in.
Test in rain to see if you get water in.
    Carry forth.

If the hammock is 11' then after you whip or secure the gathered ends its smaller, then if you use a rl and lay in it, also it gets smaller. If you rig the tarp close to the hammock u should be fine. As I would agree, its not ideal. I would prefer a 12' tarp to cover my 11' hammock. I have 2 11' tarps that I am going to make doors for my 2 hammocks, at 10.5 and 11 feet. Even without the doors if rigged correctly you should be fine in most cases.

If the tarp is rectangular you could try using the diagonal as a ridge. If it's 9' x 11', your ridge would be 14' or so. If you use an asym sleeping position, match the angle with the tarp. Tie it low in bad weather, as you would with any tarp. You'll have 18" coverage beyond the ends of the hammock.

If both tarp and hammock are the same length (without a ridgeline on the hammock) then an 11' tarp will work great. You will have around a foot of extra coverage on each end of the hammock. The longer the tarp the higher above the hammock it has to ve pitched.

I'm guessing your hammock is 11' laid out flat. The ridgeline length is the length when it is hung and you are laying in it. Typically this is about 83% of the flat length or 109" for an 11 footer. This will leave close to 12" of tarp overhang on each end.

In addition to the other suggestions, an underquilt protector gives some protection against blowing rain and ground splash.

If the hammock is 11ft I'm guessing the ridgeline is more like 9 ft. That gives you a foot of coverage each side, which is perfect. If you dont use a ridgeline it'll be a bit wider. I'd suggest looking into a ridgeline. It gives you a place to jang stuff, and keeps the feel of your hammock consistant.

If you actually have an 11ft ridgeline then your hammock is HUGE (like a 13ft body). Get a smaller hammock :-).
