material for hammock. DWR or not?

I'm wondering which is better to use for the hammock body? I'm looking at buying the 1.9 uncoated ripstop from quest outfitters but then realised it has a dwr coating. Is this alright?
(just realise that nothing is spelt right in the title)

    Thanks, Jay

It's a holiday weekend over here in the 'States, so pardon the slow responses.

DWR is OK for a hammock. IMHO, uncoated ripstop nylon is much better, especially in warmer climates. Do you need the 1.9? DIY tactical has some great 1.1 untreated that I have used for many of my projects at a very decent price. Rockywoods also has a large selection. But the Quest fabric should be OK.

I'd go for a material with out a coating to allow for breathing. If it were too dwr you may find you'll wake up in a bath of sweat.

    Hi
Would this 1.1 oz be down proof? I'd like to make a top quilt out of some.

Not sure, but I don't think so. This fabric is very light and porous, which is why I use it for my topcovers, and had my second BB made from it.

At 4.50/yd, it might be worth getting a few yards and checking it out, though.

Yes you could be right but I'd hate to make one and then fill it with down only to find it is no good for down.

    Downproof Ripstop Nylon - White
    Downproof Ripstop Nylon - White
    59-60" wide
    1.1oz/sq yard weight

This material is a "calendared" ripstop nylon as it has been passed through 2 heated rollers under pressure to thin the material and fuse the fibers. It is water repellant.

Great as a lining for sleeping bags and jackets.
    Nominal Fabric Width: 59-60"

Shipping Weight: 6 oz per Yard
    Price: $6.25 per Yard

Check that out.... white might not be your first choice.

LOL - you are right. I guess it's hard to tell if fabric is downproof by its looks.

that DIY tactical 1.1 is "Seconds" - what does that mean? Does it not have the same integrity as 1.1 ...."firsts"
