Are there no more updates? Or is everyone now making bamboo indoor stands?

I so enjoyed this thread and the results that I got the 1x4, 2x4s and hardware and will be making my own stand soon. Thanks everyone for the input and experience!
Pics when finished of course, or it didn't happen.

And, like oldgringo usually so eloquently puts it: Bump...........

I came across this today after seeing a random picture of TrailH4x's and want to thank him for a great design. I know that the OP is old, but it is new to me.

I plan to build one when I get some time, but I might have to work this weekend

i was going to just put in two poles in the yard... now i am thinking this stand is a better deal all the way around...

i have a few questions though... is this long enough to hold a table cloth hammock with whoopies??? i went through most of this thread and i didn't see anything with whoopies hanging that i remember...

Original design was built for HH's (Hyperlite specifically). My hang has whoopies, though I tie the AmSteel off to the structure rather than use the adjustments of the suspension. I have hung a Deluxe on it, but it was snug up to the hammock ends.

Thanks. Don't forget to post your mods if you tweak it.

What was the final finished length at the 7' base piece?

I have one - it depends on how long your DIY is (120" should work).

I built one of these and one of the following. Honestly, I like the turtlelady (or the turtledog variant) more than this one. This one looks really sleek and it's shorter, but that ends up putting you closer to the ground. I felt like I was sometimes a little too low - and my back was right over those outriggers, which felt a bit awkward mentally. Also, the TurtleLady stand (with the aluminum poles I got) can break down and fit in my sedan for transport, which is super handy.

If you're not sure, the materials for this plan are cheap, as are those for the TurtleLady stands/variations. You could always build them both.

Either way, I would recommend going with these over putting poles in your backyard. Those'll be a pain if you ever want to remove them - and you can't move them around your yard or to another location. Most of these DIY stands allow for much more portability.

i recently made one of these for use in my apartment so i could still hang in the winter. i set it up in my room and as soon as i put weight on the hammock the stand collapsed... the tie outs are very important! i didn't have any rope supporting the uprights and one of them slid off the side of the support. lesson learned, problem solved. thanks for the design TrailH4x and thanks to SinisterMinister for the plans, they helped out a lot.
