It seems like you could use some tractor pins as quick releases for the support braces to the outriggers. You can get some really tough pins that are long and would be easier if moving the stand a lot. Probably could also use the same kind of pins for connecting two stands together.

    Maybe something like this http://www.tractorsupply.com/agricul...length-0269052

opie984, I would think you could do the hitch pins. But... alot of the sturdiness you get from the bolts and washers and nuts compressing the boards together would be lost.
My feeling is it would be a wobbly mess. Over time the holes would become egg shaped. My 2 cents.

OK, in the spirit of this thread and DIY, what if you were to take some round stock and bend a short L on one end and then measure out the approriate distance and drill a hole to place your retention pin? I know I am probably grasping @ staws, just thinking through and easier way that wouldn't require wrenchs, pliers, or ratchet/socket.

I think I saw a hand nut (big black handle) on agfadoc's stand. Maybe that's the way to go.

Eyebolts and wingnuts are a no-wrench solution.

    Secure uprights with stabilizers:
(Initially, I drilled holes through the stabbing guides and uprights and secured it with a bolt. I have since notched the uprights and recut the stabilizers to fit the notches eliminating the need for installing and removing bolts during setup and takedown).

What holds them in place when you use the notches? I'm guessing once the hammock is in place, that keeps everything together...but does it take two people to set up with the notches?
    Nice design BTW!

Love the design. I built mine about 3 weeks ago when camping at the local beach, only I used 5/16" hardware instead of 1/4" (had some laying around)

It works great in my backyard... once the green lumber dries out a bit, a bit o' tinted Thompsons and this thing should last forever...

Well I mocked up a PHS from some old lumber I had lying around from a previous project that was dismantled. So far so good. Planning to sleep in it tonight to test it and some other gear changes I am making. I will try and post some pics tomorrow and let all of you know the results.
