My complete stand of dry pressure treated 2x4s weighs 62 pounds. The only variation in mine from the original design is that I retrofitted both of my uprights with extended 7'6" from the originally specified 6'0". Thus 3 extra feet of lumber over the original. Photos posted previously in this thread.

Sorry, meant to note that mine is an outdoor model, as it probably would not fit well indoors with the extended uprights. It's span is 15', and height is 6'.

Looked it up on line. Said that 1' = 1.28 lbs. So I figure it weighs in at around 86 lbs. Does that sound right???

Built one a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I did a mod for the feet/outrigger attachment. Although the vertical bolts held everything nice and stable, I found them a bit annoying to get lined up as I (dis)assembled the stand. So I added an extra 9 inch length of 2x4 to the outside of the base. This piece is attached to the outriggers with two 1/4"x3.5" lag bolts and then attached the base with 3/8" bolts and wing nuts (See pic). This change makes it easier to quickly remove/attach the feet though it does slightly hinder folding the uprights all the way down unless you remove the bolts on one side.

A big thank you to TrailH4X for sharing this design

After a weekend out camping in my hammock and realizing how much better I slept in my hammock than my bed I decided to throw one of these together today. Less than $30 in supplies from Lowes and all that's left is sanding and finishing. Thanks for the plans guys!

I finally built mine this weekend

I used treated 2x4s, and for the most part followed the plans posted here.

I used 5/16 stainless steel eyebolts, simply because i CANNOT find galvanized. The working load on the SS bolts is labeled at 200lbs ( I weigh 220 )

I've been to 4 or 5 different stores across the county, and have yet to find anything with a load limit higher then 200lb in 5/16 or less diameter.

I'm worried about going higher in diameter because i don't want to risk the integrity of the wood..

Does anyone smarter than me have any input as to if these are going to be ok? If I have to resort to the internet to get galvanized bolts, the 2 bolts alone are going to end up costing more than the rest of the project..

and I need to say: I slept in it for 2 nights with the 2x 200lb rated eyebolts.. it seems to be alright.... the only thing I can think is because the weight is distributed evenly across 2 of them, and because they're not sheer forces

I know that the safe working load is figured with a safety factor, usually 5 in instances where it's not designed to support human weight.. so the break strength of these *SHOULD* be 1,000 lbs.. but I'd still like the opinion of someone smarter then me...
