Dang this would be great in the winter. Every time I consider one I start getting terrified of putting holes in my beautiful tarp. It is good to know that, if done right, I don't have to worry about it.

Making a hot shelter is on my list. First I have to get a new Thread Injector. The plan is to use canvas Painters Tarps for the body

Kifaru wood stoves are made for sylnylon Teepees and ground tarps.
They sell both. Their 2 and 4 man ground tarps with vestibule is how I got my idea for a hammock tarp.
They also sell one of the best/lightest stovejack kits for syl it can be glued to sylnylon so no sewing or seam sealing is required.

That answers my dilemma about a vestibule for my DIY ammo can stove with winter tarp. Painter's cloth is cheap, right?

I know people do use painters drop cloths but they really are not very windproof. The weave is not tight at all, even after washing to shrink them. I made a tent using high thread count cotton bed sheets and this really is good quality fabric around 3-4oz per sq. yard.

You have to shop around online to find the best deal but a king size set would give you enough for a winter tarp, two for a tent.

I use both sil and multicam fabric,,, the multicam is fire retardant but heavier... I do like it better... my stove pipe goes straight up and have not had any issues...

What about using a heat shield (couldn't locate one that i'm happy with ) ? I'm guessing the stove pipe doesn't get hot enough to cause problems for a tarp /tent ? how far should the stove be from tarp / tent wall ?

You do need a stovepipe jack. The pipe gets pretty hot and will melt syl.
I keep my woodstove about 12" from the wall.
Some have used simple Al drip trays for the oven as a heat shield.
