    Hello from Maine

Hello, love this site. Lots of great info. Question, those of you that have a TQ and UQ, do you just stuff them into your pack or do you use a compression sack? My JacksrBetter quilts do not fit in my pack well without using a compression sack. Second question is, will a compression sack hurt the quilts with continued use?

Can't wait to get to Springer. Thanks for your help.

    Hello from Maine

Hello and welcome to the forum from Florida.
Maine is a wonderful place for outdoor activities. I spend some time there as I have a place near Conway, NH.

To answer your question, it's 'D' - All of the above.

It's true that everyone packs differently. Some line their pack with a trash compactor bag and stuff everything that needs to stay dry in it, and twist the top into a goose neck. Others use separate roll-top waterproof dry bags for each item.
There's no right or wrong answer. Ask yourself, do you hike in the rain or are you wading across rivers? Factors like that may affect your decision.
I personally don't like to put my down items in a mechanically compressed sack. Just manually stuffing them into stuff sacks is about all the compression that I want to do.
Perhaps a larger pack (not necessarily heavier) is in your future. Or is there another item that can be attached to the outside of your pack, like your tarp, which you would want access to without opening the pack during a storm.

Welcome aboard from Florida. I'll be hosting another hang or two in Frankfort next summer when we get back up that way. Keep an eye out for the Trip planning.
