Bumping up the temp of an underquilt.?

I wear down pants and a down jacket to bump up the rating of my top quilt. I'm also hoping that it helps smooth out cold spots while I sleep.

One problem is my underquilt. I'm considering buying a 20F full-length quilt but I'd like to test it in the dead of winter in yosemite (not just fall).

Are there any tricks to bumping up the underquilt rating? I can't use down pants as the down under me compresses.

I could pack in a blue foam padding.

Or maybe there are some companies that have one off quilts that can just add 10F to my existing quilt..?

Warbonnet's hammock sock may be an option. That may provide the extra warmth you need.

Or try the 2qzq UQ protector. Waiting for mine to arrive and think it will help contain a bit more warmth in addition to protecting my UQ. http://www.2qzqhammockhanger.com/ham...cessories.html

I use a 3/4 length 20* DIY UQ to augment my 0* HG Incubator for very cold temps. Used this set up for most of this winter with an UQP.

Fascinating... I didn't realize that WB made a travel sock.

    It's here btw:

... so another question. should I just get a door kit for my edge tarp or am I good in terms of wind if I get the hammock sock?

I guess in terms of SEVERE wind during the winter months it's probably safer to get the doors. This way during a blizzard I can just seal myself in.

Though if I'm trying to protect against this situation I should probably upgrade to a larger tarp with integrated doors. Something like the Superfly.

I think that if I can seal the tarp and also get it the barrier close to the snow that it will bump up the internal temp a bit and then combined with the sock to keep in even more heat then I should be set.

A pad and/or uqp should do it. Water bottle does wonders also. Not to mention that 20f rating is not a hard and fast standard. Lower limit of any insulation is really depend on the user.
    Directionally challenged...comicly so.

Not all who wonder are lost...But I'm probably just lost.
