    Basement Hang

Here is my setup for my basement. Based off of the force calculator on Derek's " theultimatehang.com " page, I assumed worst case scenario with 1000# of horizontal force. Since I have NO idea what is code for studs to withstand, or even just risking splitting one, I decided to share the load across three studs.

    My wife was not impressed!

Ps. Don't judge the suspension. It's already converted to whoopie slings.

My wife would kill me!!! I'm remodeling my basement and plans are to have a spot for me to hang and when not in use cover with picture frames.

I hang off a single 2x4 stud on each end. I weigh 200# and the hang calculator says 190# pulling on each stud at near 30º. You could use a nice piece of oak trim instead of the 2x4 and put some pegs on it to make it look like a coat rack.

I think they will actually become shelves and the 2x4 painted to match the wall or maybe stained.

Those are 9' ceilings, those extra long studs can be kind of willowy near the middle.

If you would attach higher on the wall, you could achieve 3 things:

    1. Still maintain a 30* slope on your supension.
    2. Reduce the inward force on the wall studs reducing deflection and possible wallboard cracking.
    3. Attaching nearer the top of a stud where it is less susceptible to deflection.
